Dear Latter-day Saint,
Welcome to my pages! I am a wife, mother, and grandma who has other pages on the internet relating to Mormon Doctrines. (See below) I've gotten a number of E-mail responses from hurting Mormons, and by that I mean LDS who have become disillusioned and/or hurt for various reasons in their religious experience.
I know the word love has been cheapened by overuse. Perhaps what I want to convey, more precisely, is a heartfelt sympathy and a bit of hope in spite of what such people have gone through (and ultimately, some info I believe they desperately need to hear). I hurt for and with some of you who write me, and believe in my heart that for some of you at least, the "bad stuff" you've gone through is going to be a stepping stone to something good! I believe that there is life beyond Mormonism. I believe that seeing the dark side of Mormonism is a step toward searching for the true light.
One man who wrote me said his wife had a nervous breakdown shortly after realizing she just couldn't do and be all the LDS church expected of her, though she really tried. Another woman told me the same thing years ago. I pray for these people (the 2nd woman has totally recovered now, and found a vital relationship with Christ). And I KNOW that they are representative of many others who are finding out the same thing -- it's just plain impossible . I want such people to know for a certainty that the problem is not with your ability - the problem is with the system itself! Mormonism's requirements are both unrealistic and unbiblical in the overall context of the new testament. (More on this in my other pages; see below.) Please know that you are not the first to feel inadequate for the task. Many before you (there are lots of 'Jack-Mormons') have gone through this painful struggle and finally realized it wasn't their fault! Don't blame yourself if you can't be perfect (see I John 1:7-9)! Yes, it was a command of Christ, but the rest of the story is that the only Biblical way to fulfill this requirement is what is described in Hebrews 10:10-14, and Romans 4 - we must accept Christ's imputed righteousness by faith so God can give us a declared righteousness by grace. Our own imperfect attempts at righteousness will never work (Romans 3:10,23, Titus 3:5).
I pray that your painful experience will be the stepping stone to lead you to Christ's forgiveness by his grace (Eph. 2:8-10, Rom. 3:24, 5:1) If you are "heavy laden" with the impossible demands of the laws and ordinances of Mormonism, Christ says to you, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (rest unto your souls). Matt. 11:28-30 Think about that! Soul rest!
Some of you who have written have been let down by leadership in various ways. One lady had a patriarchal blessing fail - the pregnancy which was supposed to go full term and live, miscarried and died. To such people I say, maybe God wants to push you into a willingness to obey two of his commands that most all LDS ignore: "Beware of false prophets" and "test the spirits". God never said to check your brains at the door. It is NOT wrong to question!
Some have asked questions and not gotten real answers. Some have about decided the WHOLE religious scene is a farce. To such people I say, don't throw out the baby with the bathwater . Don't deny God himself because of hypocrites, false teachers, false doctrines or false churches. Doesn't your heart tell you He really IS there?
YES, be skeptical. I don't blame you a bit. You've been stung once. I know you've been taught to doubt the Bible in some ways, but before you discard it along with the other 'revelations', ask me some hard questions.... what if you have been lied to about the Bible's trustworthiness as well as those other things? I believe that that IS the case! I have seen the lists of so-called Bible contradictions, and have answered them, time and again in correspondence. Click here for more about Bible errors, contradictions, etc. I can assure you there IS a source of truth. I can assure you, there IS genuine spiritual life outside of Mormonism. Don't let your search end before you find out the WHOLE truth!
Many of you have become bitter because of hypocrisy you have seen or experienced. I've been a member of Baptist churches for over 30 years. Of course every barrel can get a rotten apple or two in it, but the vast majority of the people I have lived with, worshipped with and observed in those years are 7-day-a-week Christians. Some have followed sacrificially and shown a Christ-like spirit in spite of tribulations galore! Sure, there are hypocrites here and there...just as counterfeit money exists. But it wouldn't exist if it didn't have a genuine counterpart. Think about it.
Many of you who write me have one good thing going for you, and that is your continuing faith in Christ. I commend you for that. Hang onto that. It is your only hope! And to you I say simply that you do not have to sacrifice that because of the errors of Mormonism. They are not Christ's errors, but Satan's lies. My goal is to bring you to a better faith in Christ - to help you separate between man's teaching and Christ's truth. Ask Christ to help you do this. Search the Bible. There's good news there for you. Mormonism has not told you the full extent of what Christ has done and wants to do for you via the atonement (explained in my other pages). And if you have questions...please give me a chance at them. No, I don't know it all, but I care about you and want to share what I do know. It is a burden God has put on my heart.
With some of you, I've listened as you unload some of the bitterness you feel. That's OK. I don't blame you a bit. But bitterness is a tiring treadmill. To you I say, refocus. I'm bitter too...very very bitter...toward the Devil who created such a counterfeit that looks so yummy on the outside but is full of spiritual poison! I'm bitter enough to expose the lies! Yes, it is a CRIME you have been deceived or hurt or used. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. The worst is yet to come because of the LDS false plan of salvation, unless you learn and believe the truth! I love you enough to warn you and show you the lies and the truth about salvation and eternity. One hundred (or 1000) years from now this will be the only issue that matters. (Click here to see what I'm talking about.)
For those of you who feel alone in your discouragement with Mormonism, I can assure you, you are not! There is a site and chat group on line made up of Mormons who have become disillusioned, and who fellowship on-line for comfort, support, and Biblical inspiration. It is called Mormons in Transition. The support group can be accessed through this address: http://www.irr.org/mit/
With my prayers,
